Location: Cebu, Philippines
Heading back home, I can say that I couldn’t have asked for a better trip. Throughout these 2 weeks volunteering, not only have I lended a hand to a less fortunate community, but I’ve learnt the value of teamwork, met a handful of incredible people from all around the world and immersed myself in the rich Filipino culture.
Going abroad by myself has been a leap of faith in my abilities, but being surrounded by a supportive host family, team of volunteers and friends has been a constant source of laughter and new experiences. On rare occasions will a recently graduated high school student be able to collect blood samples, set IV lines, analyze CT scans, practice sutures on patients and get overall first hand experience in the front line of medical assistance, and for that I am grateful.
I am also thankful that I had the opportunity to mildly alleviate the heavy load that all doctors, nurses, lab technicians, and employees behind the scenes have to endure every day, dedicating their time and effort to save lives despite often being overlooked or taken for granted.

Forever appreciative,
