Live Your Dream - Young Pilot Award 2016

Hi, my name is Alasdair. Through James Rao Live your Dream, I have been lucky enough to get the funding to learn how to fly a single engine aircraft and train get my private pilots license.
I began to learn to fly on the 15/06/2015, coincidently the day of my 16th birthday.
I am learning to fly out of Durham Tees valley airport with Durham Tees Flight Training. I predominantly fly the piper sports cruiser but I also occasionally fly in the Cessna; it’s great to get as much experience in as many different types of aircraft as possible. Flying in the north east of England has its challenges including things such as the wind, rain, snow and not to mention cloud and fog. This means that it is an added challenge just to get airborne but hopefully learning the difficult way now will benefit me further in the future. All things said, there is no better sight than looking out the cockpit over a sun bathed landscape with no clouds in the sky.
Ever since I was very young I have always wanted to learn how to fly and I've always been interested in flying and what life would be like as a pilot. To me flying is a unique feeling; the rush you get as you take off or the relief and joy you get when get a perfect landing is like nothing else that I have ever experienced.
Really I'd like to say a very big thank you to the Rao family, for giving me the wonderful opportunity to learn to fly. I would also like to thank you for influencing me in wanting to learn to fly. I have very fond memories of coming to visit you all in France and getting to see all the things to do with Airbus. Also seeing James progress into becoming a pilot really gave me the drive to think, "it can be done". James was and still is a true role model for me and for anyone else who crossed paths with him you will know that he was a true gentleman.
Thank you so much for all you've done for me and my family and for the incredible opportunity you've given me.
